One issue with these products is that they are Memory, CPU and disk pigs!! Below is the minimum recommended configuration for the email scanner portion of the software that I received from an engineer at Trend Micro. In the documentation, it says these products require 9GB of disk without quantification based on usage and platform. I have been testing the product and I like it, but I do not think I would want to put it on my Firewall machines. I would suggest putting it on separate machines, especially if you have a lot of network traffic and expect the Trend products to be really busy. Hardware recommendations based on number of emails per day. Problem : What are hardware requirements for Interscan SOLARIS based on email traffic? solution : The following table is based on the assumption that less than 20% of all E-mail messages contain attachments. E-mails/day Computer(SUN) # processors RAM Hard Disk 1000-3500 Ultra 5 1 64MB 2GB 3000-7000 Ultra 5 1 128MB 2GB 7500-10000 Ultra 1 1 128MB 2GB 10000-20000 Ultra 1 1 128MB 2GB 20000-40000 Ultra 1 1 128MB 2GB 40000-75000 Ultra 2 2 256MB 4GB 75000-100000 Ultra 2 2 512MB 8GB For other Unix platforms, please use the sizing for Sun and use comparable systems from those vendors.
