[FW1] Need Advice: Remote FW Management

We have a management server/FW managing multiple
remote sites. We are in the process to do a major
version upgrade to 4.1 Before I started the upgrade,
there has been ideas floating around here that we
should redesign the process.

We have seen incidents where authkeys either get out
of sync or stops fowarding log files. (i.e Log Server
down in the event viewer.) I was wondering if it would
be better to install management servers/FW at each
remote location and connect to it throught the GUI? 
This way there is no authentication with the master
over the internet, thus, no keys to worry about
getting out of sync.  The stranger thing weve seen
happen, is that a remote FM server STOPS enforcing the
policy when it loses connection to the management
server. We are currently running on 3.0b now.

Any suggestions appreciated. Or if you can direct me
to docs on planning recommendations. I could not find
anything on Checkpoints site.
