[FW1] RE: Thomas Nau - FW1 vs SunScreen

Dear Thomas,

Having installed both, here's my experience:

- both relatively easy to install
- FW1 much easier to configure and administer: for SunScreen, I advise you
not to use the Java interface, as it's buggy, slow and it occasionally
crashes !! Instead, install Netscape and use that.
- Logs: much better in FW1, with SunScreen you have to specify the period
for which you want to see them each time, as opposed to the continuous log
you get in FW1
- VPN: tried to get FW1 to establish a VPN with SunScreen, using SKIP and
failed. SunScreen <--> SunScreen VPN works fine, albeit fiddly to configure
- Support: much better for FW1, since the product is more established
- Pricing: not sure how they compare
- HighAvailability: bundled with SunScreen EFS 3.0, which is an advantage
(with FW1 you have to buy their HotStandby module separately). The only
disadvantage is that the HA is an installation option, so if you change your
mind you have to reinstall EFS, with CKPT is a few ticks in boxes + add-on
module.

Hope this helps ...

Regards,
