Not sure if you got your answer already, but a good solution would be to run a RADIUS server such as Steel-Belted RADIUS on NT (www.funk.com), then set your auth rule to use RADIUS. Never tried it with user auth rules, but it works great for securemote authentication, so I would guess that you'd get good results with user auth as well.
